To teach and instruct, both newcomers and the more experienced boaters, the principles of better and safer boating. On successful completion participants will receive our East Midlands Boat Handling Inland Waterways Helmsman's Certificate.
Location - The course will be held on the River Soar and River Trent in the East Midlands. This can be a challenging section of waterway for broad beams including narrow sections and wider river part, locks, bridges and weirs. The challenge is intentional as it shows what can be achieved and gives students greater confidence on their own boats.
However Colin will travel to deliver the course on your own boat.
Duration - The course is based over two days to give sufficient handling experience. (Normally 09.00 till 18:00 each day.)
Helmsman's Course Notes - The Handbook is included in the cost of the Helmsman's Course. It will be sent to you when you book for pre-course reading.
Boats Used - Instruction is carried out either on beautiful historic Dutch barge Anja or on your own boat at your location if you'd prefer.
How to Register for a Course - Telephone or email us to discuss dates. The maximum number of students is two per course.
Enjoy the experience of overnight accommodation on-board Anja for an additional £50 and fully immerse yourself in the experience.
TEAS/COFFEE SOFT DRINKS ALL DAY LONG
* Certificate can only be awarded to students achieving the required standards
** We Recommend a 2 day course for those with little or no experience. For those with experience please contact us for one day prices.
"Thank you again for an excellent course...and overnight accommodation added to the comprehensive experience and setting us up for a start on our own wide beam. As you have indicated you have a much better operation than the alternatives that we looked at."
"Very good that this course also gave wide beam experience and on rivers, currents and anchor use as well as canal locks and narrow sections, bridges and mooring. Hospitality, refreshments and meals were excellent and gave more opportunity for discussions. Excellent instructor on very nice boat that gave a very informative and enjoyable experience".
"It was all good, going through some locks with me steering, but Colin helping me using the personal radios. Gave me a lot of confidence I could do it. Brilliant course - would recommend it to anyone. Colin couldn't have made us more welcome. Thank you".
